Activated charcoal, also known as activated carbon, is most commonly made from wood but can also be made from coconut husks, bamboo, peat or other carbon rich sources. It goes through a process called carbonization, which is the process of taking carbon-rich material and converting it to pure carbon through heating. Once this form of carbon is produced, it goes through an oxidation process so it can become “activated”.
