Late summer brings melancholy to some, including the seemingly jolly and respected rose plant. For, this is the time of year when days spent frolicking in lazy afternoons are coming to an end, school beckons, and stalwart roses lose their petals. A Rose Hips Historical Fun Fact

Due to its high vitamin C content, rose hips may have played a significant role in keeping British kids healthy during WWII. When German submarines were destroying cargo ships carrying imported citrus fruit, parents were instructed to gather the rose hips seed pods and make syrup to administer to their children in order to prevent scurvy!
